Paris is the capital city of France. It is situated in northern France, on the River Seine. Paris has an estimated population of 2,153,600.
Paris metro includes 16 lines, primarily underground, with a total route length of 213 km (133 miles). Trains run from approximately 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. every day of the year on every station of the network. The last train, often called the "balai" (broom) because it 'sweeps' up remaining passengers, arrives at the terminal station at 1:15 a.m.
The standard pass, replacing the previous ticket "t" since 1 July 2007, is the single trip ticket "t+" which is valid for 1.5 hours time, for one continuous journey on the public transport network, including the whole Métro network, the bus network, the trams and zone 1 of the RER. The ticket T+ allows for unlimited transfers between same modes transport (ie. metro to metro, bus to bus and tram to tram) during its 1.5 hour validity period . It can be bought either as a single unit at a cost of €1.50, or as a pack of ten, a carnet, costing €11.10.
